Paleo-Indian habitation by the Great Basin tribes began as early as 10,000 B.C. The Great Basin was inhabited for at least several thousand years by Uto-Aztecan language group-speaking Native American Great Basin tribes, including the Shoshone, Ute, Mono, and Northern Paiute.
